Mohs' hardness scale

 Gemstones:  Sodalite

A navy blue stone often confused with lapis lazuli whose color comes essentially from the impurities it contains.  Sometimes it can even be green, yellow, pink or grey.  Historically it has been associated with Saint Anne, Jesus Christ's grandmother and as such has become a favorite stone for mature women.  Today, sodalite is reputed for it's calming effect, in cases of physical or emotional over-heating.  It is believed to facilitate communications over long distances and to allow the speaker to think and measure their words before passing judgements on a specific situation.  Aids in meditation.

Hardness on Mohs' scale:  5.5-6
