Quartz One of the most common minerals on our planet, pure clear quartz or rock crystal derives it's name from the ancient Greek word "Krystallos", meaning clear ice. It's typical hexagonal shaped crystals are easily identifiable in its brut form and often are found in triangular cuts in beads.
