Mohs' hardness scale

 Gemstones:  Leopardskin Jasper or Rhyolite

As it's name indicates, leopardskin jasper is easily identifiable with it's typical array of brown, beige, grey and black silicates arranged in an intriguing pattern of spots.  In the past and even among some modern native cultures, this stone is associated with the predatory power of the big cats.  As a wishing stone, it is said to bring what is needed but not necessarily what one may want.  Others believe in it's regenerative powers and it's capacity to aid in practical decision-making concerning one's future.  Some shamans in Africa still use it as a talisman for a spiritual communion with predatory cats of all types to protect their people from attack.  On a decorative level, leopardskin jasper has a natural but slightly wild quality about it that brings out the self-confidence of the wearer.

Hardness on Mohs' scale:  6-7
