Goldstone is an artificial stone made by inserting tiny copper crystals into translucent glass.  Reputed to have been invented by Italian monks in the 17th century following a secret formula, goldstone exists in a variety of different colors:  blue, black, brown and rust.  The sparkling copper bits remind us of the starry sky and it is said that giving a child a bit of goldstone to hold at night can help relieve his fear of the dark.  Some people believe that wearing these attractive stones can attract positive attention to the wearer, and the chance to portray an individual's strength in the best light.
