Mohs' hardness scale

 Gemstones:  Blue Chalcedony

A stone in the semi-translucent quartz family, chalcedony was associatetd with the goddess of the moon and of the hunt, Diana. Ancient Egyptians carved amulets symbolizing rebirth out of blue chalcedony and placed them in tombs to accompany the mummy to their afterlife. North American Indians used chalcedony in the manufacture of arrowheads because it was thought to bring good luck to the hunters. Today it is believed to aid in the assimilation of new technologies and to help in establishing concrete projects for new ventures.

Hardness on Mohs' scale: 6.5
